It is such delight to introduce this Review Symposium on my book, The Air Transport Industry in Africa: A Legal Analysis of the Single African Air Transport Market, published by Routledge in 2025. Convened by Afronomicslaw, the leading blog on international law and international economic law issues relating to Africa and the Global South, the symposium brings together a distinguished group of scholars and practitioners in air law who constructively engage with the book’s arguments, scope, and contribution to African air transport law and regional integration debates.

This study develops a new framework for understanding the premium by introducing the concept of an “institutionalized” African risk premium. In doing so, the study identifies three distinct forms of the African risk premium: (a) the perceived African risk premium; (b) the real African risk premium; and (c) the institutionalized African risk premium.

Fireside Chat on Trade Policy and Regional Integration: Trade Policy Is Not Just for Policymakers The session was a fireside chat titled "Trade Policy Is Not Just for Policymakers", facilitated by Mishael Wambua, Component Lead at GIZ Support Programme for Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). He discussed the importance of fostering an awareness of trade policy and regional integration in Africa.

The African International Economic Law Network (AfIELN) invites the submission of abstracts for its 8th Biennial Conference taking place at the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic, Rabat, Morocco, from 20 to 22 June 2026.

The AfronomicsLaw Academic Forum (West Africa) hosted the second edition of the AfronomicsLaw Lab Series on the 23rd of October 2025. This particular session was led by Sâ Benjamin Traoré, who is an Associate Professor at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University. The topic was: "The Imperative of an Africa-focused Approach to Business and Human Rights in Africa".

We are excited to unveil the new African International Economic Law Network (AfIELN) Executive Committee, 2025-2027. The New Team, led by Dr. Regis Simo, has already hit the ground running. Plans are already in place for the Eighth Biennial Conference, for which the date and venue will be announced soon.

This study analyzes trends in public debt and austerity in Africa, focusing on the period immediately preceding the COVID-19 pandemic (2018–19) to date (2023/2024). More specifically, it centers on countries at high risk of defaulting on their debt, those that have defaulted on their debt repayments during the pandemic and post-pandemic period, and those currently undertaking debt restructuring. The study further analyzes fiscal policy measures adopted by indebted countries, focusing on their impact on social spending and the well-being of populations in Africa. The selected countries for this study are Zambia, Ghana, Malawi, and Kenya.
