Letters to a Young Scholar - A Workshop for Early Career Scholars to Prepare a Manuscript Submission to the JWIT
Are you an early career scholar interested in publishing an article in the Journal of World Investment and Trade (JWIT), but uncertain about your chances of success? This workshop is designed to guide you through the process and boost your confidence.
Embarking on an academic career is both exciting and challenging, particularly for legal researchers in the early stages; however, navigating the complexities of academic publishing can be daunting. This workshop is tailored to support early career scholars by providing a comprehensive overview of the publication process in JWIT. Participants will gain valuable insights into crafting a scientifically rigorous article with guidance on every phase from the initial draft to the final peer review.
Submission Scope
JWIT invites submissions that align with its broad focus on international trade and investment law. Articles should address topics such as bilateral, multilateral, regional, and sectoral treaties; dispute resolution; and relevant domestic laws. The journal seeks to place trade and investment law within a wider context by examining its interplay with areas such as public international law, international taxation, commercial law, environmental law, energy law, human rights, and sustainable development. Submissions can cover both fundamental issues and current topics including international and domestic policy trends, relevant legal cases, and case studies specific to industries or countries. JWIT welcomes a range of approaches, including normative, legal, and economic, socio-legal, historical, and political science analyses.
Senior academic who will participate in the workshop to provide advice and guidance include: Andrea Bjorklund, Julien Chaisse, Dominic Npoanlari Dagbanja, Ming Du, Filippo Fontanelli, Moshe Hirsch, Joanna Lam, Maria Laura Marceddu, Irma Mosquera, Krista Nadakavukaren Schefer, Shin-yi Peng among others. Their collective expertise will offer invaluable insights into the intricacies of academic publishing, helping early career scholars navigate the submission and peer review process with confidence.

The workshop consists of three online sessions:
First Session (May 2025): The workshop will kick off with a keynote address on the intricacies of publishing in JWIT. This will be followed by an initial round of feedback and guidance from reviewers, helping the authors refine their abstracts and set the stage for developing a strong manuscript.

Each participant will receive detailed comments and suggestions on their draft from 2-3 reviewers, aiding in the improvement of their work.
Third and Final Session (February 2026): The focus is on the final decision-making process. Reviewers will present a comprehensive report outlining whether the manuscript is accepted for publication with no or minor revisions or it it is rejected.
