Young Scholar's Workshop
Canadian Yearbook of International Law & International Law Group, University of Ottawa
The Canadian Yearbook of International Law, Canada’s leading peer-reviewed international legal journal, will host a Young Scholar’s Workshop on November 1, 2023 in partnership with the International Law Group of the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law. The Yearbook aims to support young scholars by providing an opportunity to present and receive feedback from senior scholars on unpublished works-in progress, in English or in French, that advance critical thinking in areas of public or private international law of relevance to Canada. The Workshop will also take place immediately preceding the Annual Conference of the Canadian Council on International Law (November 2-3, 2023) for those who wish to attend both events. The workshop is open to doctoral students in the final stages of their PhD or those within five years of the completion of a doctoral program.
Prospective participants should submit an application by September 5, 2023 to pacifique.manirakiza@uottawa.ca. Applications should be clearly identified in the subject line of the email as ‘Workshop Application’ and include the author’s current affiliation and contact information, along with a 500-word abstract detailing the paper they wish to present at the Workshop. Selected participants will be notified by September 19, 2023 and final papers of a minimum of 5,000 words in length must be submitted by October 10, 2023. Limited funding for need-based reimbursements of attendees’ travel expenses will be available. Attendees will be encouraged to submit revised versions of their papers following the Workshop to be considered for publication in the next volume of the Yearbook, subject to double-blind peer review.
